Jim Doherty is a dedicated community and business leader and long-time advocate of rural Oregon values. Jim has been a small business owner for nearly 25 years, running O’Doherty Cattle Co. with his wife since 1999. Jim also served Morrow County as County Commissioner for six years. During his tenure as County Commissioner, Jim gained invaluable experience in government and policy, overseeing county-wide operations and managing critical assets.

Jim was instrumental in securing $15 million in contracts that funding STEM and STEAM educational programs for all Morrow County students. He also helped direct $10.1 million from the Columbia Enterprise Zone to non-profits and economic development projects. This lead substantial grants to local small businesses and housing.

It will also during this time where Jim was able to forge relationships with state legislators across the state, ensuring the betterment of Morrow County and advancing the values of its citizens.

Outside of private and public service, Jim has spent many hours serving on boards and associations, advocating for the people of rural Oregon. Jim was President of the Association of Oregon Counties, leading the organization to push for bipartisan solutions that brought all of Oregon to the table.

A fifth-generation Irish immigrant he followed the path and passion of his ancestors. Those closest to the earth and community, understand the importance and value of our past. Jim understands the character and creed these life lessons bring to all we do.

Jim has spent his life in agriculture and community service. He was raised on one of eastern Oregon’s largest sheep and cattle ranches in the heart of the district. A lifelong learner, he and his wife built their ranching business. He did this, while crafting a Bachelor’s degree in Ag Business and History. He is working on pursuing a Masters in Creative Writing and sings lead in the Irish Country Band.
